CINDERELLA: THE LIGHT OF GOD (2012)
A Theatrical Event Written, Directed, & Art Directed by Andrew Michael Sotiriou
A melding of Christian doctrine, Ancient Greek tragic tradition, and the music of the Yale Women's Slavic Chorus, this Cinderella tale asks —From where do we derive our strength? What propels us when all seems lost? How does faith vary from person to person, and how does it manifest at the level of community?
Five sub-groups — each composed of an actor and a painter — worked together within the community of the production to give life to its characters. Painters created icons to reflect and inform character development. The Slavic ensemble served as Tragic Chorus & Liturgical Choir.
Adapted from a late nineteenth-century "Cinderella" from Northern Greece, this play was the outgrowth of an organic and dynamic process that sought for all involved to investigate how they connect with a Higher Power.
